These cute little amigurumi balloons are the perfect decoration to brighten up any celebration, and even better… there’s no plastic waste afterwards! They’re super quick and easy to make so won’t take long at all.
I decided to whip up a couple of little balloons to brighten up the table for my daughter’s birthday recently, they were the perfect finishing touch.
If you haven’t tried amigurumi yet, it’s a real must! It may seem a little daunting at first, but trust me, it really isn’t! Amigurumi is worked in a round using single crochet (UK double crochet), however, you won’t slip stitch at the end of each round but work continuously. This avoids any lumps and bumps and you achieve a nice smooth finish.
The pattern comes in 2 different sizes which you can then mix and match to make the perfect balloon display!
Materials
Small quantity of dk yarn in a variety of colours
3mm hook – if using different yarns, adjust hook size accordingly
Polyester fiber fill – this can be found in any craft store
Bamboo skewer or lollipop stick
Stitch marker
Yarn needle
Scissors
Pattern Notes
* This pattern is written in US terms.
* It’s a good idea to use a stitch marker so you remember where you first started your round. As you won’t be slip stitching, there won’t be a clear start and finish of each round.
* To decrease stitches in a round, you will need to work sc2tog over 2 stitches. To do this, insert hook through next st, YO, pull through but do not finish the sc. Insert hook in next st, YO and pull through. YO and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
* To increase, work the number of sc in the parenthesis [] in the same stitch.
